I wonder if that serves a similar purpose for them....we couldn't decide....but it's interesting that llamas like to roll too!

SueLife Looms Largehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05522897791564181980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26055463.post-2307033475362173902010-09-04T02:57:14.916-05:002010-09-04T02:57:14.916-05:00Looks like beautiful fiber to me!Looks like beautiful fiber to me!Anniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09457801491872035594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26055463.post-6271060175889885552010-09-03T17:02:32.264-05:002010-09-03T17:02:32.264-05:00Bety, that's assuming he hasn't loaded it ...Bety, that's assuming he hasn't loaded it with hay and leaves, and sticks and bits of dirt. :)

Renee, well, that probably won't be for awhile. :)

Bettina, I'm figuring it just comes with the territory. We'll see what happens when he does finally get sheared. I agree that the dust isn't so bad though. At least I haven't thought so in the alpaca I've worked with.

Laura, I will have to try the blower. Or rather, I'll have to try getting him used to the blower! Interesting about the groomed out fleece. It's good you gave her that feedback too. I'm sure it was helpful in the long run.Leighhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02435811789823712254noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26055463.post-41956147653889633912010-09-03T15:26:09.355-05:002010-09-03T15:26:09.355-05:00The easiest way to clean a llama before shearing i...The easiest way to clean a llama before shearing is with a blower. They have to get used to it, but since they don't have grease in their fleeces, the stuff all blows out (or mostly). Some actually get to where they enjoy it.

I'm glad you are refraining from brushing him every day - it's a sure way to end up with no spinnable fiber when he's shorn. I once judged a "fiber on the hoof" class at a local llama show in Reno. One of the women had a beautiful llama, much like Charlie in color and wool type - however, he had been over groomed, and there was no down fiber left. She came to ask my why she didn't place, and I told her! He looked great for the show, but as far as spinnable fiber, there wasn't any!Laurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08421589409738817614noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26055463.post-91047192008492144702010-09-03T13:13:24.045-05:002010-09-03T13:13:24.045-05:00well, next spring is still a good while away - hop...well, next spring is still a good while away - hopefully he will trust you enough by then for you to manage shearing him! I quite like his character of not being such a pet - how indignified would it look if he were to beg like a dog - when he is supposed to be a guard llama?:)) I think the dust isn't such a problem with the fibres, it washed out easily enough with my llama and suri alpaka fibres - the vm is another matter though! I hope it doesn't spoil the fibres for you....Woolly Bitshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11961632742998726155noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26055463.post-55002927600031517562010-09-03T09:25:18.781-05:002010-09-03T09:25:18.781-05:00can't wait to see your first Charlie project. ...can't wait to see your first Charlie project. ;o)Renee Nefehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26055463.post-62420732898622506632010-09-03T08:46:40.727-05:002010-09-03T08:46:40.727-05:00Looks like your gonna have a lot of fun once Charl...Looks like your gonna have a lot of fun once Charlie gets sheared next year.
